Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - FNL season 2
This is quality US TV at it's best. Peter Berg's desire to show the depth in HG Bissinger's concept again shines through. This season sees all of the characters develop and in the case of Tyra and Landry somewhat incredibly. Unfortunately, due to the writers strike, we are left tantalisingly short of seeing the carefully built threads connect or unravel.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Go Dillon Panthers!
For a shortened season it still managed to feel pretty full, but as I look back on the DVD I can sense that some storylines were artificially dropped and others extended. It seemed promising to me, that when Eric Taylor returns to Dillon, and has to be athletic director too as well as coach, that the female coach started giving him grief about her girls getting underfunded. And then what happened? Absolutely nothing--it wasn't a challenge to Taylor, just a joke. They made the female coach a laughingstock and that was that--just gave Connie Britton something else to do, coach a volleyball team and ignore her daughter some more.

Couldn't they have allowed another, similar story time to grow--I mean the one where Julie (Aimee Teagarden) gets a little too familiar with her journalism professor? They wrapped that one up so fast the ink is still dry! Why? Well, stories one and two were interrelated now that I think of it: sexy teacher was encouraging Julie to do some investigative reporting on her own dad and where the money goes in his program. Maybe they just decided to leave feminism out of it--or social justice? Instead they wasted what seemed like hours dealing with Jessalyn Gilsig playing Shelley, the funloving sister of Tami, and her hanging around the house all the time acting defensive when she wasn't acting trampy.

That's not to say the show wasn't great in general! I just got tired of Shelley and super tired of Julie acting so awful towards everyone else on the show. Afterwards, I advise you to watch the DVD extras which include a full Paley salute to FNL, with Peter Berg in attendance and many, many of the actors too (though so Smash for some reason!), and ask yourself, is Aimee Teagarden really a smart actress playing smart, or an airhead who just looks smart, because she done lost herself a fan with her insipidity and gum chewing. Filmed at the conclusion of Season One, the actors clearly have no idea what the writers are going to do with their characters!

It all boils down to the same problem The O.C. had with their Season Two. Season One was perfect, and then for Season Two, the writers introduced a new character for each one of the main characters, basically to break up all the happy couples. Thus, on FNL, Saracen gets a Guatemalan maid for Grandma, Julie gets the hot young teacher, Lyle gets a new Christian boyfriend, everybody's got somebody else to ratchet up the tension, but there's a point of diminishing returns when you double your cast list, for the viewers miss the concentration on the core cast. Oh who cares, I'd watch it if they had 1,000 actors on it. Go Dillon Panthers!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best of the Best
I loved this season of FNL. I know everyone says that the Tyra/Landry storyline was too much like a soap opera, but I LOVED IT!!! I love SMASH and his storyline, but i hate what happened to him. I would recommend this DVD because it has great writing, acting, and is just plain Hilarious, Surprising, and REAL...to an extent!!!!

BUY IT NOW FOR SUCH A LOW PRICE!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Love IT.....Never thought I would
Because of all the cancellations without reason over the last few years, instead of picking a few new shows to check out because they sounded good, I recorded the pilot for every new show with the high hopes that I would be pleasantly surprised and get hooked on something that might stay around for more than half a season or one season. I didn't think there was a chance in ++++ that I would like anything about this show but was instantly hooked and could not wait for season 2. Season 2 was just as good, if not better than season one except for the fact of the writer's strike cutting everything short.

This show is very unique but not out-there unique. Different from anything on television because it deals with so much in every episode.

Women enjoy the drama and men anjoy the hardhitting cut-throat world of football and sports. Middle-class families, poor families, really great marriages, really bad marriages, amazing parents who struggle with stricter rules to kids who roam free with no rules at all-and practically no parents. Community outreach - neighbors helping eachother, the struggle to care for a grandma with multiple illnesses, a realistic view of raising a family, the loving marriage that can make it through anything, the teenage years that have certain features that echo everyone's teenage years, no matter when you were born etc. There are a wide range of family values, a wide range of spiritual beliefs - from none to very strong beliefs. Bi-racial friendships exploring the good and the bad, the easy and the difficult situations, a primary character who is young and vibrant and paralyzed. Not so popular kids being main characters-equally important to the story as the popular ones.Consequences for your actions, ethical struggles, real everyday life. ALL THIS AND IT'S FUNNY AND HEARTWARMING TOO! For every dramatic storyline, there is also heartfelt feel good moments and laugh outloud moments too. I can only imagine how inspirational it is to so many others like myself.

This show has almost everything - except of course the support of the network.

It's a great show, different than any other, with excellent actors, good storyline and very realistic in most cases. Therefore, it will likely get cancelled and never return for season 3 and again, my heart will be broken and I will have to bury my ever increasing disdain for the television executives.

PLEASE GIVE IT A CHANCE FOR SEASON 3 - AFTER ALL, IT'S NOT OUR FAULT THE WRITER'S WENT ON STRIKE. NONE OF THE RATINGS WERE WORTH ANYTHING LAST YEAR (or any year actually).

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Series
