We actually purchased this light from our local hobby lobby store. It was marked down from 30.00 to 20.00. It was pretty easy to put together and screw to the ceiling..however like others said it is loud and mechanical sounding. The light is VERY dim, I'm pretty sure our plug in night light is brighter. The only problem I have with this is the noise and the fact that it sits too close to the ceiling. I wish they would make something like this that could be wired in directly to light switch.
I am not going to take it down and return it. I think it should be about a 10 dollar light NOT the 30.00 orig price.

I purchased this for my 3 year old son's new Space-Themed room...He Loves it...It's Very cool looking...However...the construction is pretty flimsy, and It absolutely GOBBLES C batteries...so it will light up, but often will not turn...unless you're willing to change the batteries about every 3 days! Also, prepare to put pretty large holes in the ceiling for this product! For the price, it's OK for a three year old at bedtime...the "Moon in My Room", by Uncle Milton works much better...

My son received this for Christmas and it really is awesome. The planets are proportionately sized and in order from the Sun out. The 15 minute video that accompanies the mobile is also great, very educational without too much extra information. My son has learned a lot and at 5 can tell you some fact about each planet, their sizes from smallest to largest and in what order they fall from the Sun - all from this toy! I'm not sure there is a better way to learn while playing with respect to planets for little ones.

We got this for our 3 year-old son and it has helped with the bedtime battles. He is staying in bed watching his planets. We read the reviews before purchasing so were prepared for the noisy motor, and it really isn't loud enough to be distractive - both our kids have fallen asleep with it on. The main features I like are the glow of the sun - perfect for a night-light, the movement of the planets that entertain, and the 15 minute shut-off feature. My main gripe about the product is the battery power it takes. Three C batteries and those didn't even last a week! So this will be an expensive product to keep working. Overall I recommend this product.

I love it, and my son does too. It is quite loud -- I could maybe replace the motor.... But he runs it for 20 minutes as he's falling asleep, and the noise level seems to be ok for him. The solar system shuts off after 20 minutes and the moon shuts off after 30 min, so it works well as a pre-bedtime thing. When I saw the photo on the box, I assumed it went over the room lamp, but it doesn't. You need to drill two holes in the ceiling to mount it (really one would do). Also, I recommend using the next size up drill bit -- 3/8". I bent the (cheap) toggle bolt trying to install.
