I recently bought Melissa and Doug's 48 pc. Solar System floor puzzle for a 6 year old that I have nannied since birth. He is a very bright, sharp, young man who loves the challenge of putting things together.
Since I know of his deep interest in the solar system over the past year and his love of puzzles, this was indeed I thought the "perfect" gift for him. It proved to be just that. Upon its arrival he was excited to get started.
He was lost in space for several hours while he completed it. I was so proud of his stick-to-it-ness, his determination and the enjoyment he derived from the finished puzzle.
Upon completion the puzzle was glued and mounted and now hangs from his bedroom wall which has a solar system theme.
The puzzle is colorful and the pieces sturdy enough for young hands to put together. I highly recommend it for young, thirsty minds that love new things and for moms who love to keep their children busy with fun, educational challenges that don't become boring.

My 2 1/2 year old daughter played with this puzzle at a friend's house who's a year older than she, and even though she needed help, I was really surprised that she stuck with it the whole time and really was involved. The colors are really nice, the pieces are just the right size for little ones, it's durable, and not overwhelming. She's already learning all the planet names, which I think is pretty cool. You really can't go wrong with Melissa and Doug. I ended up buying one for each of her friends' birthdays this year.

This was a fun puzzle for my 2, 3 & 5 year olds! I love the big pieces and we are learning about the planets by discussing their colors, rings and positions relative to other planets.
I must say, I was sad not to see Pluto....I forgot it's been downgraded and is no longer a planet. But that's not Melissa and Doug's fault :)

My son and I have had hours of fun with this, even though he is only two, hes learning the shapes and colors, and loves to try every combination. The colors are outstanding and the pieces are large enough for him to work with.

This is a great puzzle from Melissa and Doug. Their floor puzzles are very durable and fairly priced and this is no acception. It's also a great picture to make a puzzle out of because it doesn't have a lot of blank space and not a lot of color repetition. My 3yo daughter learned how to spell all the planets with this one and loves to pick out which are which. Definitely would recommend this one for kids.
