The Ultimate Knitting Book is the book all knitters should keep on hand for those times when they have a question, puzzled by the directions in a pattern, or just want to learn a new technique. I've been knitting for what seems like my whole life and consider myself an advanced knitter and I still refer to this book. There are a lot of resources out there now, including the internet, but this book is definitely one to have. It has never let me down! If you know a knitter and want to get them a knitting-related gift, you can't go wrong with this book!

The information provided is sound and voluminous BUT you can't get to what you need because the index is worthless, as well as incomplete! Most frustrating.

This book is truly invaluable to a knitter. Unless you have a professional knitting friend joined to your hip, then you need this book. Anything I have ever needed to know, I have found the answer here. It is easy to read and follow, and the stitch dictionary is very comprehensive. This book really gives you the confidence to expand your knitting horizons.

If you are a beginner and need lots of visual images in order to understand how to knit, this isn't the book for you. I have another Vogue book and for some reason, the instructions and the steps on how to do a special stitch don't make sense to me. The Vogue books are written in such a way that it assumes that the reader has some understanding of the "knitting" terminology and some background in knitting. When I started, I didn't understand the terminology. Now that I have been knitting for a while, I have gone back to my Vogue books and it has made sense. However, I strongly state that if you are a brand new knitter OR are just learning to knit, don't buy this book. Wait until you have learned the terminology and have had a little experience in knitting.

If you can buy only one knitting reference book, this is the one I would recommend. There are only a few gaps in this book, and most of what isn't here, is rarely used. This is a book worth buying!
