I always had problems with weight loss. I'm one of those women who lose weight with great difficulty. Tried all sorts of diets but all were fruitless. Using Agatston's diet I finally managed to lose about 5 pounds. This diet works even if you are as problematic as I am in losing weight.

Although I do not believe anything 100% without doing my own research, I do believe that this is a very healthy diet to follow. I wouldn't necessarily call it a "diet", because this is a plan that you could follow for the rest of your life. I did not begin the diet as specified because I did not want to diet. I wanted very healthy recipes to follow. The menus provided are right up my alley and provided a ton of nutrition. With exercise I'm sure this will maintain a goal weight or cause someone to lose a little, but that's not my personal goal. I really do enjoy the fish recipes in here and the variety-- the fact that my menu for two weeks is planned doesn't hurt either. IF you are looking for a few healthy recipes to follow, give this a try.

I'm going to give this book a try.
My wife and I have regular medical exams, and every two years do a stress test, the latter under the supervision of a top flight cardiologist in New York City. During our prep meeting for the stress test, he suggested that we both read through this book. Neither of us have serious problems, but we both would like to lose a little weight and some of my blood numbers could come down a bit. He said the book was well founded in current science, and that many of his patients were using it very successfully.
I read through the book, and discovered it would be very easy to modify my current cooking menu to fit the suggestions in the book. My wife went through the menus for the first phase, and agreed that the menu was varied and interesting enough for us both. The underlying science was very interesting and appears sound. So, we'll give it a shot, and see how it goes.
From time to time, I'll add comments on our progress or lack thereof in the Comments. The public exposure may motivate me to stick with it. My first objective is to improve those blood numbers before the stress test in three weeks.
On the research side, I found that many people are using the South Beach approach. Dr. Agatston maintains a website devoted to the program with a fair amount of free material. He also offers a weekly email with recipes, hints and new information for $5.00 a week. Google on south beach diet .
There are a number of free websites devoted to the program as well. Amazon won't allow direct links, but after studying the field, I like one you can find by Googling on south beach beginner .
I bought a copy of The South Beach Diet Quick and Easy Cookbook: 200 Delicious Recipes Ready in 30 Minutes or Less (The South Beach Diet). I'm an intermediate cook, and I'm sure that many of the recipes could be prepared by anyone with any cooking experiences. Perhaps 25% require a bit more experience, but they are all written very clearly, with excellent illustrations.
I also bought a copy of The South Beach Diet Dining Guide: Your Reference Guide to Restaurants Across America (The South Beach Diet). It was a very useful guide, filled with information about how to order in any restaurant, and especially helpful on the chain restaurants.
Finally, The South Beach Heart Program: The 4-Step Plan that Can Save Your Life is a very interesting description of the science underlying the study of heart disease, and contains some very useful information on preventing heart disease.
Research over. Time to see if it works for both of us. More anon.

Some of it is good and some of it is silly. Like all diets, too much of one thing can be dangerous and self defeating.

This was a good book, but it was hard to follow and lose weight because I was hungry most of the time. Also, the snack foods, lowfat cheese and nuts didn't agree with me, so that left me with fewer choices. But I do know people who have lost weight on the diet, but when they go off, they gain the weight back.
