Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Child Called It
This is a very good and eye-opening and short book regarding an abused child who lived through and survived horrible attrocities. I am surprised he has any sanity left as an adult. It opens our eyes to real abuses going on in our society, that oft go undetected. This book should be required reading in school, at an appropriate age. Maybe kids would come forward, without cause to be afraid. This country has some real deviates in it, and this book makes known that very fact. Keep your tissues handy when reading it, and prepare to be appalled. What inner strength that child had.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - What a book!!!
I read this years ago, and have not quit crying since. What a read. Such a brave person and how horrible a beginning to his life was.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Perspective on a book.
The lurid biography A Child called "It" by Dave Pelzer leaves an empty spot in your heart. Reading about a child living a nightmare makes you grateful of what you have. Getting to know about a helpless child with an insane mother and a father who instead of helping his own son, turns to alcohol in order to escape the horrendous life the mother/wife creates. The main character of the story, Dave Pelzer who then again is the author of this biography, highlights all the awful tortures he went through daily, for years and how his once sane mother went from being the best there could be to an alcoholic disgrace. He would awake to the worst every morning; starvation, being made fun of by his brothers, spoonfuls of ammonia and non-stop brutal abuses. That isn't even close to all the horrible things she made him go through. Soon, David was not recognized as her son, he didn't even deserve his own name anymore, he was now known as a simple, worthless "it".

I really liked this biography; from my perspective I greatly admire David. I still can't believe that after all those years of abuse and all those long days of starvation as a young child he still had an unbreakable faith and didn't give up. He is a perfect example for the famous quote "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger". There isn't much that I disliked about this book, but I just don't understand how the father could fall into the mother's irrational mind games. There is a part in the story where the father comes home and David had just gotten wounded by the mother in the stomach and is put to wash the dishes; all the father did was tell David that he would help him put the dishes away and that that would be their little secret. The father did try to help in some ways but gave up too easily. As I see it he didn't try hard enough.

I would recommend this biography to anyone; this is definitely a point of view changer. This book should be recommended to teens especially to those who are being abused physically and mentally. It would help them greatly; it would show them that they are not alone and make them realize
what is happening is common but not acceptable.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Child's Courage To Survive
The book A Child Called "It" is an amazing true book about the author Dave Pelzer and his courage to survive. This is one of my favorite books. I liked how the book gave wonderful details to make you feel, hear, and smell the things David was. If you have ever thought your parents have been "mean" or "unfair", after reading this book you will think again.

Life starts out in California through the eyes of David in the 1960's. He has two brothers and two loving parents. In 1st grade, David is told his mother is "sick". This sickness starts to turn his mother into a "monster". She finds ways to torture David in the craziest and cruelest ways she can. David is kept isolated from everyone including his family. The only time he is allowed to come up is to do chores, get tortured, or go to school where they do not know what is going on at home. David's idol is his father, but even his father is scared of the mother. While David is in the garage, he tries to out plan his mother and plan how he is going to survive. David says how he stays up late trying to imagine he was a real person and that somebody loved him. This made me think about how thankful I am to have such a loving family.

But everyone is wondering..How does David survive?

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Child Called "It"
"Inside, my soul I became so cold I hated everything. I even despised the sun, for I knew I would never be able to play in its warm presence."

Have you ever seen or heard about child abuse? It's the most unreal, horrible events thaty happens to children. The book A Child Called "It" by Dave Pelzer is about how a young boy who tries to survive because of child abuse. In the book, Dave and his mother were really close to each other, Dave's family all loved each other. But when Dave was a small child his relationship with his mother drastically changed from discipline to punishment that grew out of control. Mother who was really nice changed into a witch that punished Dave for the most unbelievable things. Everyday Dave had to prepare himself to get ready for the "games" and some of mothers games might even end in death.Dave has to be smart and think of ways to survive mothers horrible games that he has to play.

I would recommend this book to anyone. In my opinion, this book is an excellent book because its a real story about Dave Pelzers life and it can teach people what abuse is, teach people to stick up for themselves, and not to let people walk all over you. I recommend this book to people who like sad stories, and people who like survivors, because Dave Pelzer is a survivor of child abuse and the way he survived from his mother.
