It only took two days for me to read this book. Each and every page
grabs your attention. I have seen alot of John Wayne movies and read alot
about him but this book provided me with things I never knew. I love the fact
that I can watch all those movies again with all these new found facts. It will
be like watching them for the first time. Knowing John Wayne helped develop
more realisic stunts and performed most of them himself will make me look alittle
closer next time I watch movies such as "Stagecoach." By reading this book I
learned so much more than any other book I have read about John Wayne.
Most of the books written about John Wayne have no problem telling you
John Wayne had heart and soul--this book tells you the how and why he
had heart and soul. And although John Wayne will always be thought of
as bigger than life..this book makes him human too.

I have finally finished reading this book, and in my opinion, it's not worth picking up. Many, many inaccuracies...with not much covered that hasn't already been published. I was hoping this book would go into a little more depth about his life between 'The Big Trail' and 'Stagecoach'. Things like how he felt about going to Paramount and playing 2nd lead to Johnny Mack Brown in 'Helltown', or what was going on in his life when he decided to leave Republic in 1936, and try making non-westerns for Universal.
This book is more like reading a pamphlet about John Wayne, then any kind of biography. And the title is a misnomer...the book covers his entire life, not just his younger years.
A real disappointment.
