This is a truly powerful book that teaches how to raise a man and only uses football as the backdrop. I wish I had read this book before ever being allowed to coach a child or for that matter having a child of my own. This should be a must read for fathers and coaches of all men. Outstanding!

I got into teaching 31 years ago because I wanted to coach, teach and lift others to a higher plane. I have been tocuhed by many fellow coaches whom I wanted to imulate ... not just for success, but for the way they encouraged their charges to seek a worthwhile life. Some things I picked up ... Tell my players I love them ... this was a bit awkward ... but the scene in Hoisers where coach Dale looks his boys in the eyes and says he loves them moved me to do it in the same way. The next game we have ... before our prayer ... I looked every one of my boys in the eye and told them I loved them ... that night our leading scorer collapsed and died. I am so thankful he heard me say that I loved him ... I hope he knew I meant it.
This book helped focus me on my goal of helping my players become better people.
I enjoyed it so much I bought 5 and gave them out as Christmas presents.
Helping my players understand the importance of not believing the lies of false manhood, and seeking to be good friends, good teammates, good boy friends, good sons, good husbands, fathers and on and on.
What a great mission.

Every coach should have to read this book; along with the player's parents. A must book for parenting as well.

It doesnt matter if you are a coach or not. You can take a tremendous amount of lessons from this book. If you are looking to nurture great relationships, or you are looking to develop young people into becoming GREAT people, please pick up a copy of this book.

Woven in the story of a High School football season are some of the best values for manhood. Great teaching tool. I shared it with my two sons and even underlined a few things so it wouldn't escape their attention.
