I loved this book....Lillian Bowman was too modern for her time. I loved the way the story evolved with Lillian and Marcus. He was quite stuffy and boring, and Lillian was spirited, and outspoken. Together these two are combustible, with a whole lot of chemistry going on. This book was my favorite out of the whole series. The other 2 books with the exception of "The Devil in Winter" were not as good.

Best book of the wallflower series by far. I've read all four and this is my favorite story. The plot is engaging and the love story is incredibly romantic. A fun, refreshing heroine... a sexy, frustrated hero... and all the sexual tension you can cut with a butter knife. Hehehe... what more could you want?

I have to admit that I haven't always thought that. I've read a lot of her earlier work and was never overly impressed, found some of them to be rather dull (I humbly admit) and even passed on some of her work when they came out in book stores, including Devil in Winter and Secrets of a Summer Night and even this one. But then I picked up Scandal in Spring one day, read it and absolutely loved it. That's when I realized it was one of 4 (I think) that it wasn't the first in the series. So, I went on a hunt to find the other ones and I found this one, could hardly put it down once I started it. I loved the characters, the wittiness of the dialogue. I loved how Westcliff was so annoyed with Lillian in the beginning, even referring to her as an 'annoying shrew' but yet inwardly, he really admired her and couldn't help conveying that to her in different ways. He could have been a real cad but he wasn't. She was a refreshing female lead and the two clicked wonderfully. An all around great light read. I also want to add that that last few pages of the book are about Devil in Winter where Evie will obviously hook up with St. Vincent. I couldn't imagine how this reprehensible creature would ever redeem himself after what he did to Lillian, or even how Kleypas would portray him so that the reader would even like him but I have to say, she did that rather cleverly within the first few pages of Devil in Winter. I'm reading that now and I like it better than It Happened One Autumn. But I'm anxious to read how he makes amends with Westcliff and I haven't gotten there yet. Both of these books are a must read! Along with Scandal in Spring.

This book was a fantastic read. This happened to be the first book i had ever read by Lisa Kleypas and till this day is one of my all time favourites. The characters are well developed and are very entertianing. Although this book may appear to have a very simple-used story line, Lisa transforms this simple plot into a work of art. I recommend this book to all.
