I'm enjoying the Wallflowers series by Kleypas, and find them to be great romance stories.
One of the things I truly liked about this novel was that Westcliff finally had his own novel after appearing in several of Kleypas' other books. Kleypas set up the tension and future story for Marcus and Lillian in the first Wallflower book.
The romantic spark between Marcus and Lillian is wonderful and well developed. Definately a likable and believeable pairing.

Ohh my gosh, I love Lisa Kleypas!!! This is the second book in the Wall Flower series, "It Happened One Autumn." This book is based on a relationship that has never been given the right set of directions. Lillian Bowman and her sister Daisy have come to England from America to obtain husbands with a worthy title. They are both "wall flowers." They have come to a month long house party that Marcus Westcliff has thrown for buisness and friends. The Bowman's father is engaged in buisness with Westcliff. Marcus is a very appropriate man who knows how to use his manners with the most eligance. The bad news is that he is stuck in his own house having to tolerate these two ill-mannered young ladies for several months just so he can get the deal the wants with Lillian's father. He has met the Bowman's prior to the house party and he did not like them at all then eigther. Marcus finds the sisters playing a game of rounders with some young stable hands and he decides to "play" with Lillian. She is determined to show him what she has got. He helps her through-out the game and on their way back to the estate they get caught alone, awkwardly, behings some hedges. Marcus makes the oddest of moves on Lillian. He kisses her. Neighter one of them know why or how it happened but it did. Lillian thinks that he is attracted to her only because of a special perfume that she bought in town to make men notice her. From there on out whenever Lillian trys to prove herself in front of Westcliff as a strong capable young ladie she always ends up making herself look stupid. She has feelings for him, even though on the outside she pretends to hate him because she finds him controlling. I believe that she likes to be man-handled!!! He has feelings for her, even though her uses the excuse that he does not because of her terrible manners and bluntness. I think that he likes her sassy attitude because no one else on this world will ever spit a word back into his face, and it turns him on. She blackmails him into having his mother, Lady Westcliff, be her supporter for the season. Lady Westcliff can not stand the Bowman sisters. At one of the dances Lillian is jealous of Westcliff dancing with the other girls and not herself. She talks to one of his friends Sebastain St. Vincent, who is known as the man who has debauched many young ladies. Westcliff sees the two conversing and is very jealous as well. That is when he knows that he has to have her. When Lord Westcliff feels that he has "taken advantage" of Lillain while she was in a drunken state in the library, he decides to marry her. Lillain is convinced that it is because of the perfume. When marcus tells his mother if his plans of marriage she is furious. She feels that he is throwing his royal blood into a sespool. Lady Westcliff has Lord Sebastain St. Vincent kidnapp Lillain to Greta-Green, where most people run off to elope, in a plan for them to marry and for St. Vincent to consumate the marriage. Before they get to Greta-Green Marcus and his friend Mr. Hunt catch the runaways at a pit-stop/hotel. Marcus beets St. Vincent to a pulp very badly. And yes, another happy ending, *tear, tear* Marcus and Lillian get married.

This is first Kleypas book I've read. It was a fairly easy read. Kleypas' description of the estate, Stony Cross was so vivid, I could picture it's grandeur in my mind. I felt like I was whisked away.
The only time I found the book tedious was when Lillian was acting like a spoiled brat. Her character could be quite irritating.
Marcus on the other hand, was everything you'd want in a hero. I really enjoyed to playful banter between the two main characters. It Happened One Autumn is an enjoyable, quick read, with endearing characters.

Oh my God...there are no words to describe how wonderful this book is. I happened to buy this book for a flight and I couldn't put it down!! The interaction between Lillian and Marcus is priceless. I love the way she and Marcus fight about every little thing and always butt heads with each other. I really reccommend this book to anyone who loves Julia Quinn, Nora Roberts, Julie Garwood, Susan Andersen, etc. It will knock your socks off!
