Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A cool toy, though a little fragile
This is a review for my 6-year-old son. This particular Mars Mission set was easy for him to assemble with little help from me. Once assembled, the body did have a tendency to come disconnected quite easily, but he seemed to like that (though he didn't like struggling to reconnect it).

I have to admit some sympathy to the parents who are concerned about the "theme" of Mars Mission, but on the other hand I will suggest that (1) being human-centric is a good thing if we care about human ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - More of a model than a toy
The thing about these lego sets is that the toy aspect of it isn't durable for the average boy. Yes it's great learning how to put things together, but if the darn thing keeps losing pieces if you are playing with it as an "action figure" the kid gets frustrated and annoyed. And as the mom who has a hard time even figuring out how to build the thing, when a piece pops off, you have to almost refer back to the original directions which are nowhere to be found.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Mars Mission Tank Ambush
This is an excellent product for children learning to build and create items. Once constructed, the tank is very fragile and easy to break. If the item is to be purchased for a child who will play with the item after constructed, STAY AWAY!

My son turned six last week and he has been excited about the new Mars Mission Lego sets since he first spotted them in the magazine. I, however, have been struggling with the themes of the set. First of all, if humans are exploring Mars, that makes US the "aliens," not them. Second, why is there the assumption that "aliens" are automatically on the attack? I don't like the human-centric assumptions and the explore-attack-conquer approach to learning about the rest of our universe. Maybe I'm being ... Read More
