The board is thick, heavy leather-bound wood. The box is also leather-bound with nice artwork. This set would seem to pose as a jewelery box with its ornate designs, making it great for decoration. The pieces are light and worn-looking... some of them may be slightly cracked. Some may consider this a con, but I personally enjoy the old-time feel of this set. Get real. I can find wooden sets for 1.49, and I bought a folding wooden set (men and board)for $6.00. I have seen stone sets for under $15.00

This product far exceeded my expectations. For the price, I did not expect the attractivness and nice quality. Leather covered board and case, with metal handles and corners on the case. You cannot even see this from the board covering the case in the picture, but this is REALLY NICE. Very nice design with a colorful peacock on the front of case. Nice to display. The pieces are wood, and light. But, again, especially for this price, this is a great buy!
