Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Dead or Alive 3 gives gamers the ability to enjoy a richer, more intense, action-packed experience than was previously possible on a video game system. Dead or Alive 3 is a 3D fighting game transplanted from the arcade to home, specifically for the Xbox. Tecmo has done extensive research into the technical capabilities of the Xbox and is convinced it is the ideal platform on which to showcase the latest entry in its extremely popular franchise.

Amazon.com Review:
Any new gaming console needs to offer a quality fighting game at launch, and for the Xbox that title is Tecmo's Dead or Alive 3. Though DOA3 doesn't revolutionize the fighting genre, it does offer a great gaming experience, and its graphics easily surpass every other fighting game on the market--on any system.

DOA3 offers eight modes of play, including story, team battle, tag battle, and sparring. Sparring mode is customizable and is a nice way for new players to learn how to play the game, while story mode lets you take one of the 16 available characters through a series of matches culminating in a fight against the über-powerful Omega. Once you defeat Omega, a short movie specific to your character is unlocked. The story mode doesn't make a lot of sense (and the dialogue is laughable) but the end movies are pretty cool, and it's fun playing through the game as each of the characters.

The real meat of the game, though, is its combat, and DOA3 delivers in spades. Each character has specific attacks, such as Zack's Devil Elbow or Bass Armstrong's Stun Gun Chop, and once you get the moves down, the entire affair can unfold like a carefully choreographed ballet as combatants block blows, counterattack, and land devastating punch and kick combos. Adding to the game's appeal are the massive and detailed multilevel arenas (introduced in DOA2), in which a precise kick or punch can send a combatant plummeting through the air down to the arena's next level.

It's obvious that DOA3 was designed as a showcase for the Xbox's graphical prowess, and it shows--the game's graphics are awesome. The character models look amazing and feature highly detailed clothing and accessories, and the animations are extremely smooth. The environments are also outstanding, and feature tons of little touches such as fluttering leaves, snow-covered ground that can be torn up during the course of a fight, and great-looking water. Even the background structures are highly detailed.

DOA3 doesn't rewrite the rules of the fighting genre, but its great graphics and intense fighting--especially in multiplayer mode--make for an enjoyable gaming experience. --William Harms

Pros:
  • Brilliant graphics
  • Lots of gameplay modes
  • Multileveled arenas keep the fighting exciting
Cons:
  • Story mode makes no sense
  • Few unlockable extras

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - What else can you say about this game??
Ok first off let me say that I dont really do the fighting game scene, I am an RPG/Sports and FPS (First person shooter) person... but my friend came over and said hey put this in. The next thing I know its four hours later and everyone that was there was calling for the controller. This game has some awesome graphics, easy controls so for all you novices out there (and i mean that in a good way) it wont be too hard to just jump into the game. Its story line is good even though it is a little bit ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Dead or Alive 3 defines what a fighter should be with it's amazing visuals and sound, but other than that, it's ordinary
A step ahead from Dead or Alive 2. The story is about a fighting tournament which offers a big cash reward. Each fighter is in it for a certain reason whether it is for glory, riches, or to confront another in a fight. Now, what do you notice, first of all? The graphics! The graphics are well detailed and it's near the summit of graphic design.

The soundtrack is great and features bands like Aerosmith. Each character has their own theme song. Attacks, moves, and crashes have relistic ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Not bad at all
This game has a lot of potential. Anybody notice the feet are too big, though? Anyway, the fighting moves are really on point. The grappling moves look good, not generic like other games where characters are automatically in a takedown or hold. The female wrestler should probably have her own game as well, with other wrestler type characters. Maybe we can have her do a guest appearence on the next Rumble Roses game? Oh well. The game can get boring after a while, with little extras. And yes, the women ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - like watching a porno film

I mean really half naked woman and very sexy clothes. It's a video game for god sake. I really don't like it and if you like porn go ahead.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Really Fun Game, Terrific Graphics
I'm not a huge video game fan, but I happen to have an X-Box and my friend had this game. I played it a few times with two player and I got beat everytime. I couldn't figure out if it was because I suck or if it was because he was better. Well, I beat the game with all the characters in less than a week. The game has a large number of different modes, including Story Mode, Time Mode, Team mode where you make a team and then fight a bunch of other people. Story mode is a lot different from other story modes ... Read More
