I have read all Margaret Maron's books that feature Deborah Knott. I have enjoyed all of them. Each one
is better than the last. I recommend her books to any one who asks for a book recommendation.
I am already waiting for the next book.

I think Maron has hit a bare patch in the Deborah Knott series. The last couple weren't that great, and this one was lackluster. I share Maron (and Deborah's) political sensibilities, but this one seemed dominated more by abstract ideas (development and loss of the Carolina countryside) than by character. I didn't care about ANY of the MANY plotlines, and I figured out the key plot point long before the end.

AGAIN, MRS. MARON DOES A GREAT JOB OF KEEPING YOUR INTEREST THROUGH OUT THE BOOK. SHE MAKES YOU FEEL THAT YOU KNOW THE CHARACTERS AND ARE A FRIEND AND NEIGHBOR FOR A SHORT TIME. ENJOY

I didn't care for this book nearly as much as the previous five or so in the Deborah Knott series. Just didn't have enough energy or enough tension or something like that, the storyline just fell flat. Also, I didn't care for the historical tidbit revealed about Deborah, saddened me a bit to learn that about her. I much preferred Winter's Child, High Country Fall (my favorite of all!), Rituals of the Season.
