Product Description:
With nothing left to wager but her innocence, the wily cardsharp "Evening Star" stares across the poker table at the killer who destroyed the two people she loved most in the world ... and deals the winning hand to a rugged, unsuspecting stranger.
Matt "Reno" Moran can’t believe that the conniving beauty he "won" in a card game has run off with all his winnings -- including the map to a gold mine. He should never have trusted Evelyn Starr Johnson, a tawny-haired lovely hardened by poverty and loss. But the temptress cast a spell on him, making him careless by enflaming his passions as no woman ever has before. And now the only way Reno can reclaim what is rightfully his is by joining forces with the scheming, remarkable lady on a perilous treasure hunt that could cost the handsome sharpshooter everything ... including his heart.

I have read the whole "only" series. They follow a formula. Tough, abusive male, innocent abused heroine. He always thinks the worst of her, mistreats her, has sex with her. She falls in love and lets him. They misunderstand something the other one did. They separate. He comes after her. They reunite and live happily ever after having kids.
Having said all that. I must have like something about them because I did read them all. After the males understand they are caught, they ... Read More

All the makings of a great western. We've got the crooked poker game between saloon girl, outlaws and a loner gunslinger. Map to a lost gold mine. A ranch in the foothills of the Colorado mountains, a trek through indian country, and beautiful descriptions of the land.
Unfortunately, we're saddled with a good secondary character of past novels turned into an abusive, idiotic Alpha hero and a sympathetic heroine who is as strong defending herself as milktoast. Reno's interest in gold ... Read More

This book is about Eve losing a bet (herself) at a game of cards - and in turn losing to Reno, and there search for gold. I thought this book just a tad boring so I skimmed through this one. It could have been so much better but its characters seemed one-dimensional. There was no background to either one of there past lives that formed the way they were. Reno was a - I don't know if they ever said what his profession was and Eve was a orphan - end of story. Mrs Lowell is a great writer and her books ... Read More

When I run out of new things to read and go to my bookshelf for a classic, I always find myself picking up the "Only" series. Even though I usually prefer contemporary romance, these are some of my favorites, because Lowell makes you care about the characters not just through one book, but through six. (I'm including Autumn Lover and Winter Fire in that count.) These are heros to fall for in any era, and heroines that the reader can respect, which can be tough to find in historicals. One piece of ... Read More

This is an ok read. It is about Eve a woman that bets herself in a card game and gets won by Mathew "Reno". She runs away, but he tracks her. They then come up with a partnership to find a lost Spanish gold mine, but Reno doesn't trust Eve. This soon changes after he gets to know her more. I found the characters a bit one dimensional the story has a great plot, it starts out very well. But then it all goes downhill when they start searching for the gold. I found the characters, well frankly boring and ... Read More
