Editorial Review:

Product Description:
A rare look at the true underbelly of combat, With the Marines at Tarawa is a documentary shot firsthand by Louis Hayward, a Marine stationed in the Pacific during World War II. The footage is real and graphic; the accompanying narration overviews the serious and brutal reality of war at it's purest. The succession of bloody and savage battles is highlighted by the most well known: the battle at Tarawa. The fighting lasts for days, with thousands losing their lives. Though only running for eighteen minutes, the harsh revelatory images provoke powerful emotional, moral and intellectual responses from the most hardened viewer.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Not what I was expecting
This was the standard War Department Short film on the capture of Tarawa.
Nothing new, film transfer to DVD was horrible with no attempt to digitally enhance the DVD image. I would definitely not recommend this DVD. I was hoping that this was a much better account with much better footage, that I saw on TV as a special. I was sadly dissapointed.
