The bottom is molded plastic, not metal runners, so it floats through powder and bites through hard-packed snow or ice. The body and handle are kiln-dried birch, the handrails are willow, and the finish is marine-grade. Meets all USC and ASTM child-safety requirements. Built to last for generations and featuring a pivoting front section that allows slalom turns, 180-degree turns, and hockey stops, this heirloom-style hand-crafted sled is made of thick birch planks. Hand rails are hand-carved willow, with copper ferrules between body and rails adding to the rustic look while contributing strength. Three coats of marine-grade finish protect the wood against elements.
The sled's custom-molded bottom of high-quality slippery black plastic glides along with ease, while its wide stance keeps it stable. The sturdy bottom has a wide, flat center to float on soft snow and raised rails on the edges to track precisely on hardpack. Screws are stainless steel for durability. Suitable for a child aged 3 years and up and sturdy enough to support 300 pounds, the sled measures 47 inches long x 24 inches wide x 4 inches high and weighs 12 pounds. It meets all USC and ASTM child-safety standards and carries a 1-year warranty against defects. Assembly (instructions included) is easy.
A 1-inch-thick pad with water-resistant nylon cover that fits the sled is sold separately.

I absolutly love this sled! It is always the fastest and most beautiful sled on this hills. I originally got the 52 inch sled, and after a few weeks and some rough bumps, it got a crack. I called the company and they immediatly sent me a new one. Because it was so late in the season, they only had the 47 inch one. As it turns out, I actually like that one better. I bought two of these and they both broke the first time I used them. I mean they literally broke on the first run down the hill in front of my house. The plastic underside on one cracked and the wood steering bar cracked on the other. They look great but they are made in China. I still haven't found anything better than the $15 sleds you can buy at walmart (also made in China but only $15).

What a fun sled! Perfect sled for me, I'm 5'10", and my son! Took it out this weekend and I could not get my son off of it. I was worn out after 3 runs...but my son just kept going! Highly recommend.

When I ordered this sled, I assumed I was ordering the 52" sled. The ad didn't specify the length (that would have been good information) and while the order was being processed, I contacted Amazon to clarify the length of the sled. They advised me that the sled I ordered was the 47". They were very thorough and gave me the info I needed to stop the shipment (which was already on it's way to me) and return it.
