Editorial Review:
Description: Fall Color Trees and Woodland Harvests of the Eastern Forests provides a definitive overview of trees in fall color and the fruit and seed bounty of our eastern forests with two separate videos: a 30 minute video on Fall Color Trees and a 55 minute video on Woodland Harvests narrated by Charles Kuralt. Fall Color Trees chronicles the dramatic annual color change in the eastern deciduous forests that has often been called the "greatest show on earth." Beginning with a full explanation of "why fall color," this video illustrates 45 tree species that play a major role in the production of the striking fall color from Maine to Georgia. An introductory video (About Fall Color Trees), narrated by Ritchie Bell, orients the viewer.
Woodland Harvests, narrated by Charles Kuralt, introduces the viewer to the bountiful natural harvest of our woodlands, the fruits — grains, nutlets, pods, burrs, nuts, and berries— that are not only important "mast" for wildlife (and sometimes humans), but also are often beautiful in their own right. Interesting facts about plant uses and plant biology enrich the script. A total of 112 species are searchable from the menus. Included in the video are discussions of major seed dispersal mechanisms, also searchable from the menus. An introductory video (About Woodland Harvests), narrated by Ritchie Bell, orients the viewer.
