Product Description: Mayfair Games Starfarers of Catan (SA) (MFG 3000)

This is one of those wonderfully balanced games. You never know who will win. We have played it several times and we have enjoyed the results. It has the fun resource collection and trading that made "Settlers of Catan" such and hit. It also has an encounters with pirates, wormholes, and mysterious merchants. When you add in alien races with abilities to amplify you abilities in resources, money, and technologies.
However the materials were of a poor construction considering the cost ... Read More

Starfarers of CatanMy wife and I have been fans of Catan for awhile, and we have many friends who play. I got this for my wife as a present, now we barely touch our other Catan games. By far, this is the most fun of the Catans that we have played (Settlers, Cities and Knights, and Seafarers). I would get a hold of this while you can. I rated it low on durability because we have had to use the super glue twice on the ship gamepieces. But don't let that stop you. Run to the local 99 cent store, ... Read More

Yet another addition to the Catan series, this time mankind expands into space and comes into contact with four alien races. Unlike Knights and Cities of Catan, This game is extremely playable and easy to understand. Players build colonies, trade ships and colony ships to brave the unknown of space and discover new solar systems. They encounter pirates, merchants, and the occasional out of control space ship hurtling into a sun along the way. Establish trading posts with the alien races, earn trust ... Read More

Great game if you like Settler's and wish to have a more complex game with greater head to head competition. Even with additional factors that make the game more involved (and a bit longer), the gameplay isn't difficult to master for Catan playing folk. Only downside is dealing with a lot of small parts (powerups). These are fine if you are playing on a card table drinking your mountain dew, but can create problems if you are playing on the floor with a puppy or kids who get in the way.

You'll like Starfarers too. It has an adventure quality missing from Settlers where players explore their part of the universe and meet aliens who add to your private spacefleet. The only drawback we've found is that the boosters tend to break your mothership and I recommend that you leave them on the table instead of applying them to your ship... other than that, it's a lot of fun!
