It is hard to resist the retro charms of video games of the past, which is why a lot of these titles are coming back to life on modern platforms. Activision's revamp of Space Invaders treads lightly on the hallowed ground of the original point-and-shoot alien game. Even the pregame film clip pays homage to the simple 1978 version. While based heavily on a game that is over 20 years old, this newer version contains enough newer gaming elements to re-energize the classic into a contemporary contender.
In particular, the addition of 3-D graphics brings new life to this well-traveled game, though it is odd to play without the now-infamous pixilated square enemies creeping toward the bottom of the screen. There are also a wider variety of enemy ships, guns, special powers, mother ships, and squadron formations to contend with. You can try your luck on your own, or get a second player to help you during combat, which is great for players with short attention spans. There are plenty of chances to gain extra lives, which helps those of us who lost more than a few quarters on this game at the arcade. Space Invaders is perfect if you don't want to play a game with a long, drawn-out plot. --Carrie Bell

this game is alright a 3 star at best, but definitely not a 5 star game. I give it 1 star because it doesn't deserve its 5 star rating.

Even though this game is very very easy, i still play it a lot!
It's addicting, especially with 2 people. and it's the kind of game you won't sell, or throw out, you'll play it many times over.

I LOVED THE OLD '' SPACE INVADERS '' GAME AS A KID . AND SPENT MANY AN HOUR AT THE LOCAL ARCADE . SO I SNATCHED THIS UP AS SOON AS I SAW IT IN THE STORE . I HAVEN'T HAD SO MUCH FUN PLAYING A SPACE GAME IN AGES ! THE GRAPHICS ARE REALLY COOL- AND YOU GET LOTS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF SHIPS TO DESTROY. Out favorite game! The simplicity of Space Invaders is the most rewarding part (No MBA needed to digest the manual). My 5 year old and I take on the aliens and then face the eventual "BOSS" of each level. 2 players can play as a team and that makes for much more enjoyable play, especially with kids (who wants to beat or be beaten by your kids?)

This game is really one of the last of the non violent games that are good for the kids, as well as the adults. It is quite different than the older version, but loaded with fun...
