Terrific reference -- We used this book this past summer and fall (2009) to visit National Parks in Texas, Arizona, New Mexico,Utah, California, Wyoming, Washington and Hawaii. The book was a tremendous help in understanding the park lay out(maps), contact telephone numbers, reservations and what to expect upon arrival at each designation. Highly recommended this book be taken as travel guide on your next vacation to National Parks

We own the second addition of this book and it has been invaluable on choosing where to stay. I plan to buy the updated version. I have no problem with the book not having photos, because this obviously cuts down on the cost. There are several beautiful coffee table books available with gorgeous photos and these books cost around $50 retail. I own both types of books. I have visited over a dozen National Parks and love staying at the lodges inside the parks. I was disappointed that there were not pictures nor details of the inside of the lodge or rooms of these lodges, just a partial mediocre drawing of the outside.
I would not recommend this book to others

As a person who has stayed at a few of the national park lodges and looks forward to staying a more, I eagerly sought this book. Having gotten it, I'm only mildly satisfied. The documentation about rooms, especially which ones are best is helpful (however, I don't see how I can specify the room I want when booking online).
