Editorial Review:
Product Description: After fleeing Ojai, Nicholas, Sophie, Josh, and Scatty emerge in Paris, the City of Lights. Home for Nicholas Flamel. Only this homecoming is anything but sweet. Perenell is still locked up back in Alcatraz and Paris is teeming with enemies. Nicollo Machiavelli, immortal author and celebrated art collector, is working for Dee. He’s after them, and time is running out for Nicholas and Perenell. For every day spent without the Book of Abraham the Mage, they age one year—their magic becoming weaker and their bodies more frail. For Flamel, the Prophesy is becoming more and more clear.
It’s time for Sophie to learn the second elemental magic: Fire Magic. And there’s only one man who can teach it to her: Flamel’s old student, the Comte de Saint-Germain—alchemist, magician, and rock star. Josh and Sophie Newman are the world’s only hope—if they don’t turn on each other first.

It's a great story, and fun to read for even the older crowd. It takes history and toys with it a great deal, they even tap into Roman mythology. The outside of the hard cover books are also great craftsmanship. Beautiful pages and great cover art, same quality as the first in the series The Alchemist.

This series has offically taken over my top spot as my favorite series. Previously the Harry Potter series and the Foundation Series by Issac Asimov were at the top. For that matter either, the Magician and the Alchemist books stand alone as my favorite two individual books.
Just outstanding.

My 12 year old granddaughter loved this book (and the 1st book in this series). It arrived in 2 days with Amazon Prime! She couldn't wait for it to arrive. When it did, she sat down and read it in one day! She is disappointed that the sequel to The Magician isn't due out until the spring of 2009.

Interestingly, I saw a review titled "the real heir to Harry Potter" - and I couldn't agree more. Ironically, I picked up the first in this series The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel at the Borders release party for Deathly Hallows. I liked it - thought it was ok. I was going to wait until the paperback version of this one - but was convinced by some other reader friends to get it now. I am so glad I listened to them. This was even better then the first - although, in ... Read More
